The United Kingdom Home Office follows a Points Based System to determine your eligibility to live and work in the United Kingdom. Different categories of visas require different number of points to be eligible to apply.
Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (Tier 1)
With the booming economy in the United Kingdom, there are excellent opportunities for skilled workers to work there. There are many categories of work visas targeted to working professionals to occupy skilled shortages in various industries across the country.
Points are awarded according to your age, qualifications, working experience, English Language proficiency and financial status. Depending on the Points Based System, one may be eligible to apply under the Highly Skilled Worker Category. In most cases, it will lead to a pathway of permanent residency in the United Kingdom.
Investors (Tier 1)
High net worth individuals are welcome to make financial investments in the United Kingdom. You may be eligible to apply under the Investor Category of the points based system if you have the funds to invest in the United Kingdom:
- At least £1 million that can be used in the UK and in a regulated financial institution; OR
- Your personal assets total up to £2 million and you have £1 million in a loan from an authorised financial institution.
Entrepreneurs (Tier 1)
Entrepreneurs can apply under the Entrepreneur Category of the Points Based System to set up businesses and migrate to the United Kingdom. To be eligible, you have to assume full control and be actively involved in the management of the business.
