It accounts for approximately 46% of Australia’s total value of mineral and petroleum sales. In 2008–09, the value of Western Australia’s mineral and petroleum industry reached $71.3 billion. The mineral and petroleum sectors contributed 89% ($77.5 billion) towards the State’s total merchandise exports in 2008–09, highlighting its importance to the country’s economy.
   
 

Western Australia has consistent unemployment levels of less than 4% and it remains the lowest in Australia. The low employment rate is an indicative of Western Australia’s prospering economy and reinforces that it is a great place to live and work.
